The current landscape
Despite the growing interest in Africa’s crypto and web3 scene, it remains largely opaque and a mystery. For many, it is difficult to list the top 5 investors in the African crypto scene or even how many African crypto projects have received investments.
Introducing Emerging Onchain
Emerging Onchain aims to demystify the African crypto story, reducing the siloed knowledge that currently exists in the space. Our data-driven approach to documenting crypto and its adoption in Africa will enable local and foreign investors, operators and founders to make more informed decisions about the space.
The beginning
It is only day 1, not just for African crypto but crypto more broadly. At Emerging Onchain we are starting our journey with:
Curated databases
For a start, we are launching a beta version of our database of all venture-backed African crypto startups and their investors, which will be updated on a monthly basis. Overtime, we will add other databases to ensure you stay up-to-date with all aspects of crypto in Africa. Get a copy of the database for yourself…Newsletter series
We will also be rolling out content providing you with the key information you need about the African crypto scene, including:Emerging Onchain This Week: A fortnightly series that provides a concise but comprehensive overview and analysis of the key news, updates, data and trends in the African crypto scene.
Emerging Onchain Data Deep-Dives: A monthly series with graphics and deep dives on data relating to the African crypto scene.
Community events
Community is everything at Emerging Onchain. We will be rolling out intimate events to attract founders, operators and investors working in the African crypto space to discuss, brainstorm and provide insights on topics such as 'The next evolution of DAOs in Africa' and 'Stablecoins, US regulation & Africa'.
In February we hosted our first community event bringing together over 60 local founders, investors and senior operators in Nairobi including the likes of the Global Head of Dev Advocacy at Polygon, Senior members of Celo Foundation, Binance Africa, investors including from Emurgo and founders of notable crypto projects such as Nestcoin, Lazerpay & UTU (photos from this event are dropping soon).
