👨 It's a man's world
Female-founded crypto companies only received a small proportion of funding
Hello crypto friends, a new week, a new data deep dive! 💫
So for many its no surprise that the vast majority of money raised in the African crypto scene went to teams where all founders where male, but when it came to average amount raised teams with female founders held their own.
Here are some of the crypto deals involving female founders:
Ejara: co-founded by Nelly Chatue-Diop (CEO), the Cameroonian startup raised $8million for series A led by Dragonfly Capital and Anthemis
Buycoins: Co-founded by Ire Aderinokun, back in 2019 the startup raised $1million
Bitmama: Founded by Ruth Iselema, Bitmama raised $2million across their pre-seed and pre-seed extension rounds
Jambo: founded by a brother-sister duo James Zhang and Alice Zhang, Jambo raised a mega $37.5mill in one year across their Series A and Seed stages
This data is pulled from the Emerging Onchain deal database, which lists 140+ fundraising rounds, the amount raised by different African startups, when and from which VCs. All the data has been manually curated from public announcements and from information shared with me by VCs.
A huge huge thank you to Victory for creating the graph for this weeks data deep dive.
